Smart Growth America developed this tool with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity. This tool is designed to measure the benefits of building Activity-Friendly Routes to Everyday Destinations through Complete Streets. These efforts are part of the Active People, Healthy Nation InitiativeSM that is working to help 27 million Americans become more physically active by 2027.

How was this tool produced?

This tool was developed through a yearlong process of identifying metrics (beyond the conventional technique of cost-benefit analysis) to measure the benefits of project-level interventions in a holistic way.
